Festival of Lights Street Party Postponed

Over 30 Other Festival Events to Run

With forecasts of heavy snowfall for Thursday and Friday this week, event organisers have had to postpone the Lyttelton Harbour Festival of Lights Street Party, due to run this Friday evening. The Street Party will go ahead next Friday, June 28th, starting with the Matariki Parade at 5:30pm.

Over 30 indoor events are still to go ahead between Thursday and Sunday. The Festival of Lights, Lyttelton Harbour's annual midwinter festival, includes music events, food and wine, workshops, documentary and feature film, art exhibitions and lots of lights. The full programme is available online at  www.lyttelton.net.nz/festivals .

“We've always had fine weather for the festival before. That's usually the way with the solstice. It's a shame, because there is going to be a magnificent full moon this weekend – the whole place will probably be magical with the moonlight on the snow – but its not safe for people to be performing and trying to drive over here under snow conditions” said Project Lyttelton events co-ordinator, Lucette Hindin

Some performers may be unavailable next Friday, so stay tuned for an updated line up for the Street Party in the next few days.
